The water meter attachment was developed for counters with a Modularis system shaft. The mechanical counter is scanned on an inductive basis. LoRaWAN® was implemented as the radio technology. The add-on module is parameterized via an optical interface. The radio protocols are a few ms to 1-2 seconds long. Since the water meter is battery-operated and should have a service life of 10 years, the transmission frequency was limited to one transmission every 2 -4 hours, which is sufficient for a consumption billing. For requirements in the area of data protection, the option has also been implemented to limit the transmission intervals to 1 telegram per day, or per 7 or 14 days via LoRa® radio.
